Me: "Is it washable?"
Friend: "you will know" (smeared the colours on my face and hair).
Announcement from the Principal: " Holy is a national festival. But in Kerala we don't usually celebrate it. Some students were found throwing colours at others in the campus. This is a violation of personal freedom..." (you know his style)
Friend: "what was the announcement?
"
Me: "Principal just announced Holy as the official festival of the college." (painted his face green).

 It was in 1805 AD, that the famed Diwan of Travancore Veluthampy Dalava made a market place at Changanacherry. The market was inaugurated by the exchange of an elephant. Now this market is one of the largest markets in Kerala and is the best attended in all of North Travancore. The chief trade is in rice, pepper, dry ginger, areca nuts and piece goods. Message from the morgue

"Son, drive safe," said my mom when I got on my bike today morning.  I ignored her. I just started my bike and raced down the road. I had my headphones on which was playing heavy jazz music. I was always proud of my riding skills, I have never had an accident. I was racing down the road that was very familiar to me. I saw that truck coming the other way. I hit the brakes but my bike did not slow down, I panicked,  went straight and hit the truck.  I am now in this room with many others.  There is a board outside which says 'Mortuary'. It is dark here. I can hear my father cry in the corridor.  He had big dreams for me. He wanted me to manage the business that he had painfully built but all that is over now. My mother will never forgive herself for buying me the bike. She is the one who convinced my father about buying me that bike. I don't think she could handle the pain.  My sister, she admired me. I was her big brother. She will be crying now....

Allahabad and Triveni Sangam

Picture 1: Boats lined up at the Triveni Sangam, Prayag, Allahabad with pilgrims and tourists.  I have been to Allahabad last week and saw the site of the famous Kumba Mela at Prayag, also known as the Triveni Sangam. Hundreds of thousands of people come, as their forebears had come for thousands of years from all over India, to bathe at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical river, Saraswathi. Having visited in the winter season, I was fortunate enough to see migratory birds from Siberia playing and feeding in the Yamuna (See Picture 4). A dip at the Triveni Sangam is believed to break the cycle of rebirth and save one's soul. References to these ceremonial baths can be found in the accounts of Chinese Pilgrims who visited India some thirteen hundred years ago and even then these Melas were ancient and lost in an unknown antiquity.
